UBX Toolkit: Audience destination endpoints

See it here

Read the story behind it…

No marketer wants to miss out on getting customer data. Marketers rely on proper system configuration of the UBX Toolkit to receive data about customers (an audience) through UBX. That’s why it was important for system admins to understand how the Toolkit handles audience data.

This example provides a detailed explanation of how to configure the UBX Toolkit to download audience data from UBX to a marketing application behind a security firewall. In this scenario, UBX considers the receiving application the audience destination.

Unlike the general description provided in the Toolkit overview, this set of topics describes the specific scripts and API calls required to prepare and perform the download. The goal is to give admins a clear view of the scope and detail of the work involved. Providing this context saves time, avoids errors, and enables them to successfully support their marketing team.

Audience: System administrators who install, configure, and operate UBX and the UBX Toolkit.

Noteworthy: Like the Toolkit overview, I used Inkscape to leverage existing resources resources by reusing graphic elements taken from IBM-approved icons to create a diagram that illustrates the workflow.

I also worked closely with the application developer to confirm the sequence, scripts, and API calls. Because admins would be making specific configuration changes described here, it was important to pay close attention to detail.

Tools:

  • IBM DITA, for authoring
  • Inkscape, for illustrations
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro, for reviews

What is UBX?
Universal Behavior Exchange (UBX) is a hosted service that enables separate marketing applications to exchange data about customers (audiences) and their behaviors (events). UBX end users (marketers) can exchange audience and event data between marketing applications without the need for costly software integrations or repeated requests to corporate IT departments.

What is the UBX Toolkit?
The ”toolkit” is a collection of scripts that administrators run to call APIs that prepare, upload, and download data that describe customers (audiences) and their behaviors (events), as provided by various marketing software applications.
