Process overview

Ramp up to Experience Analytics (Tealeaf) On Premises in just four steps

Read the story behind it…

If you are a user facing a complex process or workflow, it can be difficult to know where to begin. That’s the problem that I needed to resolve for companies that want to use Experience Analytics, also known as Tealeaf.

One of the barriers to entry for the on-premises version of Tealeaf is its complexity. A typical installation requires multiple software applications, significant network modifications, and extensive consultation and training. Pretty intimidating stuff for a new customer. To promote sales and adoption, I proposed an infographic to make it easy to understand the startup process quickly.

Audience: System administrators and project managers.

Noteworthy: It was a tight schedule. We needed to finish the project in 2 weeks. I had access to a graphic designer to create the imagery. The Experience Analytics product manager joined in to align with product strategy. I handled the writing.

I had been working with the product manager for nearly a year, but I had only just met the graphic designer. So, we had to establish a good working relationship in a hurry.  We iterated frequently over Slack and email. I started by presenting the designer with some rough wireframes and preliminary text.

Over the succeeding days, I refined the text and the designer created a series of increasingly refined designs until we delivered the final version within the 2-week deadline. Just as importantly, I was able to incorporate the team’s efforts into a single article that summarizes the sequence and substance of the work to be done.

Tools:

  • MS Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro for reviews
  • Techsmith Snagit for mockups and comments
  • Markdown in Zendesk for production

What is Experience Analytics (Tealeaf) On Premises?

The on-premises version of Tealeaf is a suite of data analytic and traffic monitoring applications that customers install in their networks, behind their security firewall. Tealeaf applications monitor the content of web traffic that enters a company’s commercial website. Data analysts and system administrators configure the system to watch for specific patterns of customer behavior. The analytics can provide early warning of customer struggles, help detect fraud, troubleshoot problems, and monitor website performance.
